Title

Brian Irons

Brian Irons was Chief of Police of the R.P.D. (Raccoon Police Department) in Raccoon City. He oversaw the operations of the entire department. He was extremely corrupt and accepted bribes from the Umbrella Corporation in exchange for ignoring or covering up their illegal activities in the city. He was a sadist with hobbies in taxidermy and art collecting. He wrote an autobiography entitled "The Power of Justice." 1 2

History

Early History

During his time in college, Irons was twice suspected of assaulting a female student but avoided incarceration by agreeing to undergo psychiatric evaluation. However, the charges and his psychiatric results were ignored by the college due to his excellent grades. 3

Police Career (1980-1998)

In the late 80s, Irons acted as the middleman in a deal for the Raccoon City police to purchase the recently closed art museum. The various operational equipment in the police station were his suggestion, and although it was mainly for the pretext of crime prevention, many in the police gossiped that it was actually to develop his parochial art hobby. Irons' was the most unpopular individual among the police. 4

In 1993, he entered into collusion with the Umbrella Corporation's William Birkin and began to accept bribes in exchange for covering up Umbrella's illicit activities within the city. In 1996 he negotiated the formation of the special operations unit S.T.A.R.S. (Special Tactics and Rescue Service) with Umbrella. Since its establishment, he grew to despise Chris Redfield, Joseph Frost and Forest Speyer, viewing them as absolute enemies due to their brash nature yet strong sense of justice. While acting as a law-abiding citizen wanting the very best for the city, he indulged in a sadistic dark side he would frequently expose with a bizarre taste in art and sudden outbursts of rage.

With the money Irons earned from bribes, he decorated the R.P.D. with countless articles of expensive art and taxidermy of poor taste. He constructed a hidden room behind his office and used it to travel to the Umbrella underground laboratory and conduct taxidermy, sometimes on human victims. He organized security all over the building in order to preserve this "secret." In July 1998, Irons covered up the "Mansion Incident" by ignoring the reports of the surviving S.T.A.R.S. officers. At the request of Birkin, he increased surveillance on the survivors in order to ensure they didn't uncover Umbrella's activities within the city. 5

At the request of Chris Redfield, the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) launched an Internal Affairs investigation into Irons' background and discovered his connection to Umbrella. Some of the investigation's results were leaked to the media, eventually reaching the ears of freelance reporter Ben Bertolucci who began investigating Irons' personal history. However, Irons caught Bertolucci and framed him as a means to lock him up.

Outbreak (1998)

On September 23, Irons was informed by Umbrella of the sudden t-virus leak in Raccoon City. This enraged Irons, who immediately blamed the company for ruining the city and believed he himself may be infected. He resolved to bring everyone else down with him and began to make decisions aimed at making police response to the incident difficult. He severed escape routes within the station and ordered for weapons and ammunition to be moved in order to make their acquisition difficult.

On September 26, Irons decided to personally hunt down and murder his colleagues, shooting officer Edward in the back and watching in glee as he died. He then turned his attention to hunting the daughter of mayor Michael Warren in order to stuff her body and keep her as a trophy. 6

On September 29, Irons successfully captured the mayor's daughter and murdered her. However, before he could begin to stuff her, he was interrupted by the sudden appearance of Claire Redfield. After her departure, Irons brought the corpse of the mayor's daughter into his secret room. During this time, he was attacked by "G" and died before he could kill Redfield.
