Blood Type: O
Chris Redfield was a former airman in the USAF (United States Air Force) and officer of the Raccoon City police special operations unit S.T.A.R.S. (Special Tactics and Rescue Service). He was a courageous man skilled in firearms handling, marksmanship and operating planes and helicopters.
His character was firm and he hated corruption with a willingness to disobey orders for his beliefs, while also excelling in the powers of observation and insight. He boasted a strong body undaunted by wounds but while mentally very strong and able to get things done, he tended to get lost in details. He had a younger sister Claire Redfield who he always worried about as his last surviving blood relative.
After surviving the 1998 Mansion Incident, he independently investigated the Umbrella Corporation to expose its illegal biological weapons development. After saving his sister from being involved in his quest, he organized the Private Anti-Biohazard Service and pursued the company's remnants until its destruction when he became one of the Original Eleven founding members of the BSAA (Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance) and dedicated his career to eradicating bioterrorism. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

Chris Redfield was born in 1973 and raised in New York City.
With tireless effort, a little luck and a strong will that made his beliefs unperturbed in any situation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and trained in operating helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft as well as close quarters combat and the use of many types of weapons from knives to flamethrowers. He served with Barry Burton.
Although his straight character was suitable for a pilot and much was expected of him in the future, his views often opposed his then-senior officers due to his personality. In 1995, unable to resolve the conflicts of opinion with his senior officers, he was discharged and attempted to find a position in law enforcement, but lacked in the sense of cooperation required among the likes of SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics). He eventually drifted to Raccoon City.
S.T.A.R.S. Career (1996-1998)
In 1996, his versatility, prominent shooting abilities, close quarters combat techniques and piloting qualifications ed him to be scouted by Burton into the newly-founded special operations unit S.T.A.R.S. of the R.P.D. (Raccoon Police Department). He was appointed as point man (PM) of the S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team.
As PM he was a scout who went ahead for reconnaissance and position security. Depending on the nature of the mission, mere shooting abilities and combat techniques were not the only requirements, but also a high level of practical skill in handling a wide range of firearms. He had flexible talent in handling mutiple firearm types precisely as needed and quickly distinguished himself as the unit's top marksman. He participated in the R.P.D.'s intramural shooting competitions for which he won at least one trophy. Together with Burton, he solved a number of cases.
Although he often acted under his own authority, it led to the resolution of several cases so his degree of punishment was limited to lectures from Captain Albert Wesker, who took notice of his abilities. He became close friends with Joseph Frost and Forest Speyer and on holidays they often went into the city suburbs and caused disturbances. He trained Jill Valentine in marksmanship several times a week, but since she got angry if he wasn't strict, teaching her was a considerably serious time for him. He also trained his younger sister when she visited him and gave her a golden lighter and his S.T.A.R.S. knife as gifts, favoring a large combat knife instead.
Mansion Incident (1998)
On July 24, a day after losing contact with Bravo Team following the beginning of an investigation into bizarre murder cases in the Arklay Mountains, the Alpha Team was deployed. Shortly after landing, they discovered the wreckage of Bravo Team's helicopter and the corpse of pilot Kevin Dooley. The team was attacked by the B.O.W. "Cerberus" and escaped into the nearby Spencer Mansion after Frost's brutal death.
The surviving members of Alpha Team conducted separate investigations and Redfield found Rebecca Chambers, the rookie of Bravo Team. He discovered that the mansion was a cover for a top-secret research facility owned by the international pharmaceutical company Umbrella for the purpose of developing biological weapons with the t-virus. The survivors discovered that they were betrayed by their own leader, Wesker, who used them as elite combatants to obtain B.O.W. combat data. The survivors destroyed the Tyrant (T-002 Type and escaped via helicopter before the explosion of the mansion, dealing a significant blow to Wesker's plan.
Redfield was briefly hospitalized after the Mansion Incident due to injuries and fatigue. Upon his return to work, he sent a report on the case to Police Chief Brian Irons requesting an investigation into Umbrella. 9 When no investigation was opened, he and the other survivors argued with Irons, but the case was closed since all evidence was destroyed in the mansion's explosion. He suspected Irons was colluding with Umbrella and reported the incident to the media and city officials, but the city's top brass was under Umbrella's patronage and even the American government paid no attention to him. He began acting erratically to get himself suspended, such as punching a junior officer, so he could investigate Umbrella without alerting Irons.
On August 15, he called Valentine in the middle of the night and invited her to his apartment to reveal several sheets of paper he revealed to be a research paper on the G-virus. 10 He enlisted the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) to investigate the virus and the relationship between Umbrella and Irons. 11 Nine days later, he flew to Europe to investigate Umbrella Headquarters. In an attempt to stop his sister becoming involved, he did not inform her of the decision. 12 However, this consideration did not work as she grew increasingly concerned about the lack of contact between them. A month later, she traveled to the city in the midst of a biohazard outbreak to find him.
Rockfort Island Incident (Dec. 1998)
On December 27, Redfield was contacted by U.S. government agent Leon S. Kennedy and informed of Claire's capture and detainment on Rockfort Island. He asked Kennedy to organize a rescue team before setting off on his own to the island by boat, leaving his hideout. However, he arrived after she had already escaped and was confronted by his former superior, Albert Wesker.
He was almost killed by Wesker but was saved by the sudden appearance of Alexia Ashford on a monitor, causing Wesker to immediately pursue her. He learnt his sister was in the Antarctic and used a V/TOL Harrier jet to go after her. He reunited with her in the Umbrella Antarctic Base and destroyed Ashford. However, he was again nearly killed by Wesker until the base's self-destruction separated them. He escaped the base in the Harrier with his sister and a determination to destroy Umbrella. He joined Jill Valentine and organized the Private Anti-Biohazard Service to pursue the remnants of Umbrella.
Umbrella's End (2003)
In 2003, Redfield and Valentine investigated wolves infected with the t-virus in a remote village of the Caucasus region of Southern Russia. They discovered a t-virus leak in the village and were confronted by Wesker. They failed to take him into custody but saved a young girl, Anna and learned the location of the Umbrella Caucasus Laboratory.
On February 18, Redfield and Valentine joined the Russian branch of the Private Anti-Biohazard Service and raided the laboratory under orders from the Russian government, ignoring Kremlin permission before beginning the operation. They reached the depths of the facility and destroyed the B.O.W. "T-A.L.O.S." Its destruction doomed Umbrella, but the threat of Wesker remained. Redfield began rigorous strength training in anticipation of a confrontation with Wesker.
Queen Zenobia Incident (2005)
In 2004, Redfield was invited by the Federation of Pharmaceutical Companies to join its newly-established civilian counter terrorism organization BSAA (Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance). Along with Valentine, he became one of its founding members nicknamed the "Original Eleven."
In 2005, Redfield was embroiled in a plot by BSAA Director Clive R. O'Brian to expose the involvement of the FBC (Federal Bioterrorism Commission) in the 2004 Terragrigia Panic. He was partnered with Jessica Sherawat and investigated a mountain range in Finland to investigate the terrorist group Il Veltro. He was then sent on a search and rescue mission to find Valentine.
Redfield and Valentine neutralized the t-Abyss virus on the Queen Zenobia cruise ship and escaped before it sank. Afterwards, they were deployed to the sunken Queen Dido to recover evidence implicating FBC Commissioner Morgan Lansdale in the Terragrigia Panic. The two killed Jack Norman and transmitted the evidence to the BSAA Headquarters, leading to Lansdale's imprisonment. The FBC was disbanded and absorbed by the BSAA.
After the BSAA's reformation as a global United Nations special operations unit, Redfield became an SOA (Special Operations Agent). He partnered with Valentine and the two engaged in various operations, including bioweapon terrorism interdictions in Asia, destroying bioweapon laboratories in South America and arresting traffickers in Europe. Redfield held Level 10 action authority in the BSAA and the number of operations he actively participated in elevated him to the top among all BSAA members. 13
Spencer Arrest Operation (2006)
In August 2006, the BSAA received information on the whereabouts of former Umbrella founder Oswell E. Spencer. Its European headquarters deployed Redfield and Valentine to arrest him. The two arrived at the Spencer Estate and investigated the building, which reminded them of the July 1998 events in the Arklay Mountains.
They were attacked by mutant Blob creatures but eventually reached the building's library. They found Spencer already killed by Wesker, and after a short fight, Wesker prepared to kill Redfield. Valentine subsequently threw herself and Wesker out of a window and over a cliff. Redfield took part in a search for their bodies and personal effects, but none were found. On November 23, they were presumed dead. Due to this incident, Redfield doubted the purpose of fighting bioterrorism due to increasing casualties.
Kijuju Incident (2009)
In 2009, while investigating an American bioterrorist group, he discovered the involvement of weapons dealer Ricardo Irving and information concerning the potential survival of Valentine. As a number of Irving's transactions were conducted in the West African nation of Kijuju, he passed the information to the BSAA West Africa branch which was investigating Kijuju already.
Using his Level 10 action authority, Redfield attached himself to the operation. He was assigned a new partner, West Africa branch agent Sheva Alomar. The two agents were designated as Bravo Team, while Alpha Team led by Dan DeChant took the lead and Delta Team led by Josh Stone were on standby as backup. The operation quickly fell apart due to the massacre of Alpha Team and death of BSAA infiltration agent Reynard Fisher.
Redfield and Alomar remained in Kijuju despite an order to pull out. They tracked Irving and learnt of the involvement of TRICELL, the top sponsor of the BSAA. They later discovered the existence of the Uroboros virus, the survival of Valentine and the partnership between Wesker and TRICELL Africa branch manager Excella Gionne. With the assistance of Valentine and Stone, he killed Wesker and prevent the spread of the Uroboros virus on a global scale. The incident reinvigorated his spirit and he concluded that for a future without fear, bioterrorism was worth fighting against.
After the Kijuju Incident, the death of Wesker led Redfield to find the meaning behind the purpose he fought for and he thought his duty was finished. However, he believed that a younger generation with the same aspirations should be raised to ensure the BSAA's future in the event that someone like Wesker appeared again. He transferred to the SOU (Special Operations Unit) as Captain of the North American branch's Alpha Team in order to train his younger comrades on the frontlines. In 2010, he recruited U.S. Special Forces sniper Piers Nivans into Alpha Team.
Philosophy University Incident (2010)
In 2010, Redfield and Nivans arrived at Philosophy City, Western Australia in response to an SOS from BSAA adviser Rebecca Chambers. The two investigated a Zombie incident at Philosophy University with the help of BSAA Oceania Branch SOA Sophy Home and U.S. government agent Tyler Howard, a member of the Anti-Umbrella Pursuit and Investigation Team. Redfield resolved the incident by destroying Monster Mary using a rocket launcher provided by Chambers.
Marhawa School Incident (2012)
In 2012, Redfield, Nivans and Far East Branch agent Merah Biji resolved a bioterrorism attack in Asia. After disposing of the threat, they were ordered to meet Doug Wright. They travelled to Wright's place of employment at Bennet University in Singapore, but found that he'd already left. The three arrived at Marhawa School in the midst of a biohazard outbreak and saved Wright's nephew Ricky Tozawa, but failed to rescue Wright himself. Biji and the entire school population were killed in the incident.
Edonia Civil War (Dec. 24, 2012)
In December 2012, a new B.O.W. was reported in the Republic of Edonia and Redfield led Alpha Team to the country due to his status as an elite Original Eleven member. During the operation, the new B.O.W. "J'avo" was discovered as well as the giant B.O.W. "Ogroman." He met U.S. agent Sherry Birkin and mercenary Jake Muller and supplied them passage on a BSAA helicopter for evacuation. Afterwards, the team entered city hall and encountered Carla Radames, a clone of Ada Wong unbeknownst to them.
They were lured into a trap and the entire team was infected with the C-virus except for Redfield and Nivans. Redfield was attacked by the reborn mutant version of Finn Macauley and received a head injury that knocked him unconscious and left him with amnesia. He was taken to a local hospital but disappeared soon after with no memory of who he was except an unexplainable and crippling guilt. He took jobs as a bodyguard and gradually became a violent alcoholic, using the money from his jobs to pay for a hotel and alcohol. As he was an icon in the BSAA, his disappearance shocked the entire organization. 14
Lanshiang Incident (2013)
On June 29, 2013, Nivans tracked down Redfield in a bar in Eastern Europe and reminded him of the BSAA. With the rest of Alpha Team, he brought Redfield back to the organization in spite of his memory loss. At the same time, simultaneous bioterrorism attacks occurred in Tall Oaks, U.S.A. and Lanshiang, China. 15
The U.S. government refused the BSAA's intervention in Tall Oaks and as a result of the unprecedented magnitude of the attack in Lanshiang, the BSAA Far East Branch required support and units of the other seven branches were deployed, including the North American Alpha Team which possessed combat experience against the J'avo. Redfield led Alpha Team to rescue United Nations VIPs and in the process, his memories returned.
Redfield desired revenge against Ada Wong (Carla Radames) and pursued her through Lanshiang. During his pursuit, he came into conflict with Leon S. Kennedy, but the two put their differences aside. Redfield and Nivans continued their pursuit onto a warship. He confronted and disarmed Radames, but chose to arrest rather than kill her. However, she was shot by an agent of The Family and the warship prepared to launch missiles towards the mainland. Redfield and Nivans took control of a V/TOL Harrier jet in order to destroy the missiles, but one managed to fire.
After the missile struck the city, Redfield was contacted by Ingrid Hunnigan of the U.S. FOS (Field Operations Support) and put in contact with Kennedy, who informed him that Jake Muller was the son of Albert Wesker. Although shocked by the information, he agreed to save Muller and Birkin from an underwater facility belonging to Neo Umbrella. After saving the two he had a bitter confrontation with Muller and was allowing himself to be shot for the murder of his father. Muller didn't kill him, but the four were attacked by the giant B.O.W. Haos.
Nivans lost an arm to the B.O.W. and injected himself with an enhanced C-virus sample, using its abilities to save Redfield and incapacitate Haos. The two reached the facility's escape pods. However, Nivans chose to stay behind as a result of his mutation and shoved Redfield into the last pod, sealing it behind him. The pod launched and was pursued by Haos, but Nivans fired a last electrical shot at the B.O.W. and destroyed it.
After the Lanshiang Incident, Redfield continued to lead Alpha Team in his war against bioterrorism.
Sonido de Tortuga Island Incident (2014)
In 2014, while flying over the Mojave Desert on a mission against a powerful force, Redfield was contacted by his sister requesting aid on Sonido de Tortuga Island in the Carribean Sea due to likely B.O.W. presence. Although he could not abandon the mission, he requested the South American branch's Parker Luciani to lead a team to the island..
