Main Series
Resident Evil Zero is a prequel to the events witnessed in Resident Evil. It follows S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team medic, Rebecca Chambers and escaped murder convict, Billy Coen as they discover the origins of the T-Virus and the cause for its fateful outbreak.
Resident Evil is the original entry into the series, and was released in 1996. Based on Shinji Mikami's Sweet Home game, and various horror films, Resident Evil represents the first mainstream "survival horror" game on home consoles.
The first Resident Evil game to spawn from the Capcom-Nintendo exclusivity deal was a full blown remake of the 1996 classic game. Sporting a brand new storyline as well as extended and new areas of the infamous mansion, REmake (as it's known) is a beautifully realized retelling of the "mansion incident".
After the failed 1.5 project, Resident Evil's long awaited sequel hit the shelves in 1998 promising a longer and more intense adventure. Resident Evil 2 shifts the biohazardous outbreak into Raccoon City itself, with the action spread out from the RPD to underground laboratories.
Returning heroine Jill Valentine makes her last escape in a more action orientated Resident Evil spanning 4 days of Raccoon City's outbreak. The unnerving presence of the new B.O.W. Nemesis keeps players on edge throughout the adventure.
The first Resident Evil on any of the next generation consoles. Code: Veronica details the escape from a prison island by Claire Redfield. Other older characters make a surprising return in this fully 3D, and engaging quest showcasing the downfall of the Ashford dynasty.
The long awaited sequel, and universally praised Resident Evil marks a dramatic departure from the norm. Gone are zombies, gone are the static camera angles, gone are Umbrella. Mikami's final Resident Evil game sees Leon S Kennedy embark on his mission to rescue the President's daughter from a mysterious cult in Europe.
Ten years after the Raccoon City outbreak, Chris Redfield is deployedby the B.S.A.A. to investigate bioterrism in Africa and finds clues about the fate of an old friend leading him on a mission for the truth.
Light Gun Games
The first deviation from the core series is presented with a light game called Gun Survivor. Utilizing the GunCom45, this is a light gun game where you can control what path you take. In a whole new location and story, this is Resident Evil, head on.
Originally an arcade game, Survivor 2 takes place on the same island first seen in Code: Veronica. Featuring the revolutionary controls from the first game, Survivor 2 retells Claire and Steve's escape from Rockfort Island.
The early concepts for Resident Evil 3 eventually morphed into Dead Aim. The forth instalment in the Gun Survivor series is a hybrid of a traditionally and first person shooter Resident Evil game. Set aboard the Spencer Rain, Bruce McGivern must uncover and prevent world destruction.
Making the most of the Wii platform, Umbrella Chronicles is an action packed on the rails shooter detailing the important events in Umbrella's history. With 2 player co-op, and four vast chapters to explore, Umbrella Chronicles conveys the decline of the insidious pharmaceutical company.
Outbreak Series
An online Resident Evil was made reality with the arrival of Outbreak. Set in Raccoon City, players opted to choose from 8 normal civilians trying to make it out alive. Spanning 5 scenario's set across varied locations, people from all around the world could attempt to flee the outbreak.
The sequel to File #1 is more of the same, with another 5 scenarios making up the content. Running and firing a weapon was included in a Resident Evil game for the first time, and a connection to PAL territories. Even more exotic locations and characters all added to this online survival horror title.
Portable Games
Resident Evil Confidential Report are a series of four cellphone games, and the only original storyline mobile game made directly by Capcom. Choosing as either rookie RPD cop, Tyler Hamilton or FBI agent, Noami McClain the pair must battle through four levels surrounded by the horrors of Raccoon City.
Another re-telling of the mansion incident, but with a tweaked storyline. Only involving Jill, Wesker and Barry this has a similar structure to the Missions and Confidential Report gameplays.
The first Resident Evil game on the Nintendo DS platform. The port of the original game has been successfully adapted to utilize the DS's unique features such as touchscreen and microphone.
Zombie Buster stars Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield, in a mobile game where they come face to face with many B.O.W.'s witnessed from the "mansion incident". Released on the i-mode platform through Vodafone.
A first person shoot 'em up on your mobile phone or a 3D tactical mission based game. Two versions of The Missions are available both starring Jill Valentine fighting the undead in the RPD.
A Japanese-only release, The Stories is a carbon copy of The Missions just in the Clocktower and not the RPD. Using the same mission based strategy it was due to be released in Western regions but was scrapped at a later date.
The third entry into the Jill Valentine mission saga. Using the same formula as previous games, the action is shifted into the streets of Raccoon City and other famous locations.
Easily the best looking cellphone game, The Operations uses the pre-rendered backdrops from the GameCube remake and combines it with the mission based gameplay of previous entries in the saga. Taking control of Chris or Jill, players battle through various stages all set in the Arklay Research Facility.
The first cellphone game that is not an adventure based theme. Instead, Zombie Shooter is a hybrid panel shooting game featuring B.O.W. sprites.
A GameBoy Color game not developed by Capcom. Gaiden is non-canon entry depicting the team up of Leon S Kennedy and Barry Burton on board the S.S. Starlight.
The first Resident Evil game based on supplementary matrial. Inspired by the Degeneration CGI film, this mobile incarnation is set in the airport with Leon battling the undead.
