Classification

B.O.W. Model: "Hunter γ"
Base Organism: Amphibian/Human

Title

Hunter γ

The Hunter γ (Code No. "MA-124") was an amphibian-based subspecies of the Hunter B.O.W. (Bio Organic Weapon) developed by the Umbrella Corporation. It was an experiment to reverse the method of Hunter creation by infusing a fertilized amphibian egg with human DNA. 1 2 3

History

After the 1998 "Mansion Incident", an Umbrella Europe laboratory conducted development of an amphibian-based Hunter after receiving the reptilian Hunter α and Hunter β developed by Umbrella U.S.A. in order to oppose the American branch's growing power and influence in the company.

The development team inimitably completed the new Hunter using the American branch's know-how on hybridization by using a reverse method of thinking and daringly used an amphibian as the base for the fertilized ovum and added human genes in the culture process using the t-virus as a retroviral vector. It was nicknamed "Frogger" by the development team. 4

Contrary to most expectations, its intelligence did not reach a level favorably comparable to the β model. It was weak to aridity and direct sun-rays similar to the characteristics of amphibians. Since it inherited the specific properties of the amphibian base more than the human genes, this produced the drawback of being unable to function outside of wet locations. In that current condition, it lacked versatility and failed to reach an adequate degree of perfection, making commercialization difficult. 5

In September 1998, several γ models were shipped to the Umbrella Chicago branch in order to be transported into Raccoon City via truck to undergo a field combat test. Several specimens were sedated and captured by staff of the Raccoon General Hospital and confined in the building's basement laboratory. Other specimens were captured by rogue Umbrella scientist Greg Mueller and confined in the underground waterway of Raccoon University.

After the Raccoon City field test, a smaller variant of the Hunter γ was created based on the collected data. This new model was miniaturized and mass-produced as a B.O.W. which excelled in aquatic environments. While it was weak to direct sun rays and dry air, it posed an extreme threat in places with abundant water resources. Taking advantage of the high levels of water and moisture in the Amazon rainforest, several miniaturized γ models were purchased from Umbrella's secret Russia branch by drug lord Javier Hidalgo. 6

Attributes

The Hunter γ failed to obtain the intelligence to carry out orders making it relatively impossible to control verbally. Its vision severely degenerated, causing it to lack the sharp perception capability of the reptilian models and rely on its senses of smell and sound to locate a target. However, its high aggressiveness was comparable to the reptilian models.

It could only perform adequately in water and on a whole its perfection as a B.O.W. was generally low, but while it was weak to direct sun rays and dry air, it surpassed the reptilian models in aquatic environments as it excelled in swimming. It possessed incredible jumping power similar to the reptilian models and could easily leap in and out of water to surprise and confuse targets. Its large hands lacked claws but could still be used as weapons, albeit inferior. It lacked teeth and could not inflict significant damage by biting a target. Its nervous system was not particularly developed and it could not dodge gunfire like the β model

Prototype

The prototype deployed in Raccoon City was a large organism with peculiar roundish form and a huge digestive system capable of swallowing large animals whole, including adult humans.

Miniaturization

The smaller mass-produced model was created based on the prototype's combat data in order to fulfill a lower cost with easier transport and deployment capabilities. This model had a physical defect of a missing patch of skin in the abdomen, but this fault did not inhibit its performance. Due to its smaller size, its digestive system was not as large as the prototype and it could no longer swallow large animals whole.
