Classification

B.O.W. Model: "Proto Tyrant (T-001 Type)"
Base Organism: Human

Traits

Height: 255 cm

Title

Proto Tyrant (T-001 Type)

The Proto Tyrant (T-001 Type) was the first prototype model of the "Tyrant" B.O.W. (Bio Organic Weapon) series developed by the Umbrella Corporation. It was a failed prototype but provided data instrumental to the later success of the Tyrant (T-002 Type). 1 2 3 4

History

In 1988, the t-Virus Project at the Arklay Laboratory entered its third stage. Under the direction of chief scientist William Birkin, the Arklay B.O.W. Research Team announced the "Tyrant Project" to develop a humanoid B.O.W. with the goal of creating the "ultimate life-form." An obedient organism with proficient memory power able to observe orders quickly and use a trained, strengthened body without rest and without expressing complaint. The ultimate B.O.W. for combat, a package ideal only as a soldier. 5

However, the project had a barrier. Due to a property of the t-virus, the stabilized βII-strain used to create creatures such as the "Zombie" and "Hunter" considerably decayed brain tissue, leading to a loss of intelligence. Birkin extracted a new variant able to suppress its influence on the brain to a minimum if the subject had the necessary adaptable genes. However, there were extremely few humans with these genes. A simulation conducted by the Gene Analysis Section gave a ratio of "one in ten million." Other than that, subjects would merely become a Zombie. Out of necessity, the research team gathered test subjects relatively close to the ideal gene pattern by force from other laboratories. However, there was no success and the project was stalled.

In 1991, a former Colonel in the Soviet Army named Sergei Vladimir contacted Umbrella. Soon after, he passed the Tyrant host test and was discovered to have adaptable genes necessary for the t-virus variant used to create a Tyrant. Rather than lose Vladimir, the company decided to create ten clones of him to be used as test subjects for the creation of a new variant strain of the virus able to transform more humans into Tyrants. Several years later, the new ε-strain was created and four healthy adult male prisoners were collected to be used as test subjects for Tyrant creation. Two test subjects died due to intense mutations, but the third survived injection.

However, since the t-virus acted to the full extent of its power in the subject's body, despite the enhancement of its combat abilities there was no growth of intelligence required for command execution and extreme decomposition of the skin was notably visible. As a result, development was canceled with completion close at hand, and it was rejected and placed in chemical disposal at the Umbrella Treatment Plant after data collection. However due to its astounding vitality, it survived disposal and broke free, continuing activity in a volatile state. Its data led to the development of the successful second prototype "Tyrant (T-002 Type)."

On July 23, 1998, the escaped T-001 was encountered by Rebecca Chambers and subdued. However, it reawakened and encountered Chambers and Billy Coen a second time, where it was defeated once again. Despite this damage, it reawakened yet again and confronted Albert Wesker twice, finally being killed in a second battle.

Attributes

Morphology

The T-001's height greatly exceeded an average adult human due to a dramatic secretion of human growth hormone caused by the t-virus. Its genitalia was surgically removed in order to stop the secretion of testosterone.

The claw on its right arm developed into a shape reminiscent of an equestrian's spear. Its left arm did not develop as much but formed several smaller claws. Its body suffered severe decomposition due to the virus corroding the body, with its skin marred with lesions, missing skin and necrotized flesh. Its spine became exposed as its skin decayed, making it vulnerable to attacks from the back.

Its most significant physical feature was its several independent cardiovascular systems. Two sub-hearts were taken from a large animal and stripped down to the extracellular matrix, the non-cellular material holding the cells of the hearts together. This was then repopulated with the subject's own cardiac progenitor cells, which developed into mature cardiomyocytes transforming the stripped animal hearts into oversized human hearts. As these cells came from the subject, there was little risk of autoimmune rejection, allowing the new hearts to be grafted together and onto the subject.

Artificial cardiovascular systems were routed from the sub-hearts throughout the host's enlarged body. Despite the complicated layout, arterial and venous blood was not mixed. This expansive cardiovascular multi-system achieved strong cardiopulmonary function, increasing mobility and reflexive speed to greatly exceed the record numbers of conventional B.O.W. models. Although the two sub-hearts were exposed outside the body and were a notable weak point, their destruction would only weaken the Tyrant rather than kill it.

Combat

Upon discovering a target, it quickly approaches and attacks with its abnormally developed right claw, using it to stab and swipe at targets. Despite the imperfections in its appearance, its physical functions were equal to the completed model. It possessed astounding vitality and aggressiveness reminiscent of the completed model's "S. Tyrant" form following limiter removal. Despite Its combat abilities being inferior to the completed model, it was still a deadly organism. However, its lack of intelligence made it uncontrollable. Despite inferiority in several aspects, it could be said that its high level of ferocity and frank brutality made it somewhat more deserving of the name "Tyrant" than its successor.
