Are there any stories about early builds or canceled builds for RE6?

I recall the game being announced very shortly before it was released so I don't think there was much room for alternate builds. The small window of time in polishing it is largely what made the game fail.

The game's concept was born with an artwork of Leon and Chris pointing their guns at each other, since then I think it was a fairly straightforward development.

So was Resident Evil 7 as well. Resident Evil 6 was likely in development immediately after Resident Evil 5 given the scope of the game and it had a huge team creating it, resulting in the release date being moved to an earlier date. I feel like the game's failure stem from the whole concept of it (over the top action and the kitchen sink approach) as the actual feat of developing a huge game like that to even that level of polish in that time is fairly admirable.

I remember reading interviews from the director of the game and he talked about how they played around with the "Ada clone" concept and one proposed idea was that every time you met her in the series it was a different clone. But none of those ideas materialized as actual versions of drafts and the development was probably very straight forward as said.

That seems to be the case with Resident Evil games nowadays.
The development of RE6 & RE7 is under absolute secrecy and Capcom only publicly announces these games approximately 6 months before the release date.

I think that after years of canceled builds and fans clinging to the idea of "what could have been", "the canceled one looks better", etc. Capcom might be keeping the development phases secret as much as possible for their convenience.

True but it's clear that a lot more care and effort went into 7 than 6 so I think they took their time with this one much more.

There was also a lot less to handle with care and effort as well as a longer development time than with the previous game. Although I guess a lot of that time went into just the concept stage.

If I remember well, the development of RE7 supposedly began at 2014, so the amount of time it took to develop & release RE7 was about the same as RE6 (within 3 years).

I agree that after '5 CAPCOM has been more cautious about showing work in progress. If you guys check The Art of Biohazard 5 you can tell that '5 easily had too much going on, '6 seemed to incorporate every design idea the devs had.

It would be interesting to read what the pitches for '6 were.

I'd be interested to see if 6 had an early build not indicitive of the final product. I'm also curious on early builds of 7, and if the first person approach was always the case or if that came after the devs were exposed to titles like Outlast, Alien Isolation and P.T.

There was that inside report translated by cvxfreak, where the development of RE7 was in trouble and the Capcom CEO called Jun Takeuchi for help.

I wonder if there were any other earlier builds before Jun Takeuchi's involvement.
