I'm really surprised that no one within the Resident Evil community has brought this up yet.  I think that AMC's The Walking Dead, directed by Frank Darabont (The Green Mile, The Mist, & The Shawshank Redemption) is going to be a big fuckin' deal.  I'm hopeful that it will raise the bar when it comes to making zombie flicks, and that it will breathe new life into the genre.  So far, the make-up effects look incredible.  As a big fan of Kirkman's comics, I simply can't wait for this to come out.

Never heard of this! This

Never heard of this! This looks kind of amazing.

I'm a big fan of the comic

I'm a big fan of the comic books. Not too sure how to feel about this movie. Movies based off books and comics usually don't live up to its original source material. I guess I'll find out eventually...

Not just a movie - a mere

Not just a movie - a mere movie couldn't capture the ongoing existential horror of the Walking Dead.  It's a series.  Six episodes have been ordered so far - let's hope the initial reception is good and more are made.

Man, I hope this series is a

Man, I hope this series is a success. With shows like this, and to a lesser degree True Blood, horror is making it big on tv. I've always thought Resident Evil could work as a series on television, with RE1 being the first season, RE2 the second, and so on. Imagine being able to really flesh out the relationships between Chris and Jill, Wesker blackmailing Barry, Rebecca as a rookie in over her head, etc. Really delve deep into the conspiracy of Umbrella.

Sounds interesting. I wouldnt be opposed to something like that, if done right. Might make a really good series.

I can see the Resident Evil

I can see the Resident Evil series on TV, in fact I've thought on it a few times. A series on the B.S.A.A. or something. I can see it running something like The X-Files or Fringe.

Gearstation I can see that series outline working:

Season 1: Cases with S.T.A.R.S. members and the season finale being the Ecliptic Express and Mansion Incident.

Season 2: ...well I'm too lazy to go on, but you know what I mean and I think you all get how the series would carry out.

Character development would be amazing! Especially working on the whole Chris and Jill relationship.

Bloody Disgusting and Dread Central visit The Walking Dead set and are pretty sure the drama "may well be the bloodiest show ever seen on television."

Check out the M1 Abrams that Darabont is kneeling on.  That was easily one of my favorite scenes in the first comic.  This is looking better and better by the day.

I love the Walking Dead

I love the Walking Dead comics. They drove the character development to a level that I've never seen before in a zombie story. Or, like I use to think, a people story with zombie background.

I certainly will watch this.

I can't wait for more news

I can't wait for more news on this. I've read some of the comic, and thought it was great. Hopefully, they'll get the creators of the comic to help out, otherwise it could end up like the RE movies.

Robert Kirkman tells USA Today he wants The Walking Dead to have a very long run: "I'm hoping we blow past M*A*S*H, The Simpsons, Bonanza -- I want 27 years of The Walking Dead!" MTV, Comic Book Movie and Comic Book Resources also discuss the Kirkman interview.

No worries.

Any news for the release

Meanwhile, I found this motion comic pretty cool:

Great find, Davi!  I was

Great find, Davi!  I was a big fan of the Dead Space animated comics as well, so this came as a nice surprise.  As far as a release date, I'm afraid I don't know any more than you do. October, 2010.  I believe that it is supposed to coincide with the start of Fearfest, however, so that would put it right around the 25th.

Tons of updates on the official website for those of you who are interested:

http://blogs.amctv.com/the-walking-dead/

Just a quick observation...  The young child zombie is freaky as hell.  What worries me a bit however is the following leaked image:

A personal pet-peeve of mine is that in nearly every zombie film I've seen, the 1st level "hero" zombies almost always look really good, but in order to save both time and money, less and less attention is paid to the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th tiers.  For example, in Dawn of the Dead '04, when Steve bounces a golf ball off the head of one of the zombies, you can actually see one of the extras start to laugh.  The directors tend to skimp on make-up as well.  They forget about areas like the neck and wrists.  Hell, in Dawn, Snyder resorted to using cheap rubber masks on some of the zombies.

Also, it appears that some of the zombies in this image are running.  While I'm certainly not one of these people who piss and moan every single time a film features "fast-moving zombies," I don't think I remember any of Kirkman's zombies ever moving faster than a slow shuffle.  Thoughts?

EDIT - Saturday, July 24, 2010 - Leaked Comic Con trailer.  Quality is poor, but wow...

Wow.

By the trailer, looks like there's no running zombies. I really liked what I saw.

This sounds quality, and the same guy from Hellboy, Greg Nicotero handles the prosthetics, so all good there, and the scale of the locations dwarfs the normal sets of TV....they shut down 4 city blocks for the final main scene of epidode 1. It starts in he US on Halloween, and UK on Bonfire Night, and it could be top notch, even though you are not allowed to see braaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiins on American TV apparently !

I've been tempted, Davi...so fuckin' tempted.  We're havin' a two-day Halloween party at our house this year, however, so I really don't want to spoil it.  So far, all of the reviews I've read have been overwhelmingly positive.

I was weak, I couldn't resist, hahaha. But I become very happy to see that the episode was 1 hour long.

Good to know about the reviews. Being well received is a good step to the series last long time.

It was pretty awesome. I liked the blend of zombie horror and human drama. It was well done. Looking forward to episode 2!
